I carry the following gimp cords: Gilt Bright Gimp Cord – Single Stand: Has a shiny smooth appearances and is approximately 1 mm across the width of the thread. Gilt Bright Gimp Cord – Three Stands Twisted: Has a shiny smooth appearances and is approximately 2 mm across the width of the thread. Gilt Rough Gimp Cord – Single Stand: Has a mat appearance and is approximately 1 mm across the width of the thread. Gilt Rough Gimp Cord – Three Stands Twisted: Has a mat appearance and is approximately 1.5 mm across the width of the thread. Gimp cords are made up of a single strand or of three individual strands twisted together to make a cord. Makes a great outlining thread. Each individual strand is made up of a fine metal wired wrapped around a fibre core. The wire is copper based with a gold plating and will tarnish over time. The gimp cord is couched down by sewing over the cord or if it is the twisted cord by sewing the stitch at the same angle as the twist of the cord with the stitch hidden in the middle of the cord so it is invisible. Visit the Metal Thread Information page of my website for further information and pictures on how the thread can be used on an embroidery and FAQ about metal threads.
