I have many sizes of twists ranging from very fine to thick in gold, silver and copper: Elizabethan Twist is the finest of the twists and is approximately 0.25 mm across the width of the thread. Super Twist is approximately 0.35 mm across the width of the thread. No. 1 Twist is approximately 0.5 mm across the width of the thread. No 1 1/2 Twist is approximately 0.7 mm across the width of the thread. No. 2 Twist is approximately 0.8 mm across the width of the thread. No. 3 Twist is approximately 0.9 mm across the width of the thread. No. 4 Twist is approximately 1 mm across the width of the thread. No. 6 Twist is the thickest of the twists that I carry and is approximately 1.2 mm across the width of the thread. Twisted cords are made up of three individual strands. Each individual strand is made up of a fine metal wired wrapped around a fibre core. The wire is copper based with a gold, silver or copper plating and will tarnish over time. The three strands are twisted into a cord. The cords can be used as filling thread or an outlining thread. Twists are couched down by sewing the stitch at the same angle as the twist of the cord with the stitch hidden in the middle of the cord so it is invisible or the twists can be couched down with a stitch over the cord at a 90 degree angle. Visit the Metal Thread Information page of my website for further information and pictures on how the thread can be used on an embroidery and FAQ about metal threads.
