The Purple Icicle Pansy is a Level 1: Beginners of my Further Education kits. The Purple Icicle Pansy is worked in needle painting also known as thread painting and long and short stitch. This is the most realistic form of surface embroidery which is worked in staggered straight stitches in a single strand of embroidery thread on a closely woven fabric, blending rows of colour to create a very realistic embroidery. The sheen of the threads adds to the soft effect of the petals. I highly recommend working this design prior to any of my needle painting designs to give you a good foundation in long and short stitch or to improve your long and short technique. Please visit the Needle Painting Information page for more information on needle painting and rating of the designs from easy to hard. The fabric comes with the design printed on so you do not have to be concerned about transferring the design yourself and the threads come on a numbered thread template so you know exactly which colour to use on the embroidery. The pansy is worked in 9 DMC embroidery cotton threads on Southern Belle cotton Muslin fabric. In the kit I provide a detailed instruction booklet with 17 pages of step-by-step diagrams and instructions. You can select the kit with 1 PDF file with colour work-in-progress photos which is briefer in instructions or with the 3 PDF files that I used for my on-line class which will give you a well rounded learning in the technique. The PDF files are not essential to work the pansy. The last few pictures in the picture gallery show some of the pages in the PDF files. PDF #1 has 28 pages: Design Transfer and Stem PDF #2 has 19 pages: Leaves PDF #3 has 18 pages: Petals Needle painting can be challenging so I suggest learning the technique from one of my kits rather than from a book as you get much more instructions in my kit rather than a book which usually only has a few pages of instructions for one design. I am offering free on-going critique with this kit…..you can email me at any time if you have questions or would like me to critique your embroidery. Embroidery Size: 4 inches (10 cm) high by 2 3/4 inches (6 3/4 cm) wide Suggested Designs to Work Prior to the Pansy: No suggested design. The purple icicle pansy is the best design to begin needle painting with and I suggest getting the 3 PDF Files with the work-in-progress pictures for an in depth learning of the technique.
