The blue chalk pencil is used to transfer a design from tracing paper to fabric. Trace your design onto the velum tracing paper. Note that the design will be reversed when you iron the design onto the fabric. Place the tracing paper with the design down against the cotton fabric and then iron evenly along the back of the tracing paper, applying firm pressure for about 6 to 8 pass-overs. When you lift the tracing paper off the fabric you are left with a blue outline of your design. The transfer is permanent. You can get two or three transfers from the same piece of tracing paper. The pictures show the first and second iron on transfers. Note on the first transfer I did not apply even pressure across the whole design so the bottom of the tulip is faded. The second transfer is not as strong in colour as the first transfer and I found that the third transfer came out very faint.
